The urban public space of the cross-campus walkway has several functions. It is both the main path through the Campus and the route used by firefighters; it is at once a pedestrian area and also, at certain times, the supply area for the eastern sector. Its maximum load weight is 25 tons. The concrete tiles have been blast treated in order to support this weight. In the eastern sector of the supply area the tiles have also had a brushed finish applied that repels dirt.
