ARCHITECTURAL BRIEF
Teaching Center – Departments – Food Court

Campus WU’s open space flows throw the Teaching Center entrance hall articulating it with the Main Lecture Hall (Audimax) and the main auditoriums. The study zones, coffee shop and other public areas stem from this vertical space at all the different levels. Smaller lecture halls as well as seminar rooms are found towards the upper levels of this glass “chimney”.

In the Department Building public areas are again found with direct links to Campus WU’s outdoor space. Both the Patio Plaza and the Food Court roof are integrated with the study areas. The more private research areas are articulated with each other in the central atrium of this pavilion’s upper building floors.

LOGISTIC
Indoor flows

Envisaged as a “winter landscape”, in the Teaching Center the same design rules found throughout the Campus are applied. Thus, there are always meandering paths and walkways that mean a daily stroll can lead to unexpected spaces. Vertical circulations, visible and clearly positioned, include ramps to wander and bridges with privileged views that provide short routes through the Campus. In contrast, grandstand-style steps provide space for students to sit and relax.

The Departments building’s neutral space can be entered via an open staircase with an indoor atrium, as well as by two fixed access points with conventional vertical circulation ensuring maximum flexibility.
